A Guide To Snacking

Total Health Performance Nutrition Exercise Physiology Camden Narellan Ingleburn Campbelltown Macarthur

If you're like me and love to snack throughout the day then read on...

The problem with commercial snacks is that they're highly processed, void of virtually any nutrients and a lot on the high carb side. Potato chips, chocolates, biscuits, etc. are all delicious, however if you're working towards a specific goal, fat loss for example, then they may not fit your diet. Sure, you could alter your macros to fit them in, but when you're trying to lose weight and maintain mass, you want to make sure you're getting maximal nutrients in along with a high volume of food.

Veggie 'chips' or 'bites' are a great substitute for snacking and they virtually take no time at all and have a long shelf life (they never last that long though!!).

You can mix and match with different veggies and home made dips to keep things interesting.

Cauliflower Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into bite size pieces

  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • Pinch of pink salt and pepper

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. Place all ingredients in a large bowl and toss to combine - make sure all of the cauliflower bites are thoroughly coated.

  3. Pour out onto the baking tray and spread out so they can crisp up.

  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.

Enjoy!
